In 2006, Hallmark aired the television movie, Murder 101 (not to be confused with Mystery 101). The movie, about a criminology professor and a private detective who solve murders, was a hit with audiences and was followed by additional movies in the Murder 101 series.

In the film, university professor and on-call criminologist, Dr. Jonathan Maxwell teams up with a private investigator Mike Bryant to help the woman after she is accused of murdering her boss.

In movie number two, Murder 101: College Can Be Murder, college professor, Arthur Coe is poisoned, but who is the culprit? Could it be the student he was having an affair with, or could it be his own jealous wife? The suspect list is quite long.
Murder 101: If Wishes Were Horses (2007)
Continuing the films with movie number three, Murder 101: If Wishes Were Horses, Dr. Jonathan Maxwell investigates another perplexing murder case. In this entry, a horse owner dies in a suspicious fire.
Murder 101: The Locked Room Mystery (2008)
Concluding the Murder 101 movie series with the fourth instalment, Murder 101: The Locked Room Mystery, Dr. Jonathan Maxwell investigates a murder at a new-age retreat. The victim is the retreat leader, who is killed in a locked room surrounded by guests in a deep trance.
