After making her way into the movie industry with a knock-out turn in comic book comedy, The Mask, Cameron Diaz has lit up the screen time and time again. Her ability to jump from genre to genre has been a big selling point, but it’s her charm and likability which has helped Diaz stand out from the crowd and she has become a popular actress in the process.

From My Sisters Keeper and Annie, to Charlie’s Angels and The Holiday, Diaz has racked up the hits. Want to know all of Diaz’s movies that you should pop on your watchlist? Then take a look below.

The Mask (1994)

First up is zany comedy, The Mask. The movie – which starred Jim Carrey as a mild-mannered bank clerk turned superhero – provided Diaz with her breakthrough role as love interest, Tina Carlyle.

Sure, the part didn’t give Diaz a great deal to work with, but she made it her own and captured the attention of cinema-goers. The film essentially provided her with a platform to grow from, plus it was one damn fine film!

There’s Something About Mary (1998)

Up next is the off-the-wall romantic comedy, There’s Something About Mary. In this movie, Diaz plays the part of the titular Mary – a beautiful orthopaedic surgeon who becomes the object of affection for various men.

Directed by Peter and Bobby Farrelly, There’s Something About Mary was a big hit upon release taking almost $370 million from a $23 million budget. The movie was praised for its humour, with Diaz being cited as a big draw for audiences.

Being John Malkovich (1999)

In surrealist fantasy film, Being John Malkovich, Diaz takes on the part of pet obsessed Lotte Schwartz. As for the film, it is a mind-bending jaunt into the headspace of the titular actor, with direction from Spike Jonz and a story by Charlie Kaufman.

Charlie’s Angels (2000)

And now for something a lot lighter, via the action comedy, Charlie’s Angels. In the movie, Diaz takes on the part of Natalie Cook – one of three women who work as a private investigator for millionaire Charlie Townsend.

Directed by McG, and filled with high-kicking action, Charlie’s Angels is absolute nonsense, but nonsense of the highest order. The film mixes over the top stunts with dashes of slapstick comedy, with Diaz joined by a cast that includes Lucy Liu, Drew Barrymore, Bill Murray, and John Forsythe.

My Best Friend’s Wedding (1997)

In romantic comedy, My Best Friend’s Wedding, Diaz plays the role of the likeable bride-to-be, Kimmy Wallace. A character who is so nice, everyone should be more than happy Kimmy is getting wed.

Only problem is, Kimmy is marrying Michael O’Neal – best friend of food critic, Julianne Potter (as played by Julia Roberts). This is a problem because Julianne has feelings for best bud, Michael, and isn’t keen on Kimmy scooping him up.

A Life Less Ordinary (1997)

In British romantic black comedy, A Life Less Ordinary, Diaz stars opposite Ewan McGregor as a hostage in a kidnap situation. The thrust of the movie is the romance which builds between Diaz and McGregor, which is helped along by two angels.

Gangs of New York (2002)

Up next is the historical drama, Gangs of New York from director Martin Scorsese. In this film, based on Herbert Asbury’s book of the same name, Diaz joins a cast which includes Leonardo DiCaprio and Daniel Day-Lewis for a story about a feud between Catholics and Protestants in 1863.

Back to comedy for this next movie, which follows the story of Elizabeth Halsey – the titular bad teacher who hates her job and everyone related to it (including her students), but is forced to stick at it due to financial need. Justin Timberlake and Jason Segel co-star, while Jake Kasdan directs.

The Holiday (2006)

And now for a film which has become a firm favourite for many around the Christmas season. The movie is the romantic comedy, The Holiday, from writer/director Nancy Meyers.

In the movie, Diaz plays the role of production company owner, Amanda Woods, who embarks on a holiday home swap, which takes her from her beautiful house in Los Angeles to a quaint cottage in Surrey, England. Along the way, she finds romance with Jude Law’s dashing book editor, Graham Simpkins, while on the other end of the home swap is Kate Winslet and Jack Black.

My Sister’s Keeper (2009)

Get the tissues ready for this next movie, the emotive drama, My Sister’s Keeper. Based on the book of the same name by Jodi Picoult, My Sister’s Keeper tells the story of a young girl who sues her parents for medical emancipation when she is told to donate a kidney to her elder sister who is suffering from acute leukaemia.

Shrek (2001)

And finally, arguably one of Diaz’s best-loved performances, even if she isn’t seen on screen, is the 2001 animated fantasy comedy, Shrek. The film tells the story of a loner ogre who finds himself stuck in a fairytale adventure when he is roped in to rescue a princess.

Diaz provides vocal duties for Princess Fiona, alongside a voice cast which includes Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, and John Lithgow. Andrew Adamson and Vicky Jenson direct the film, which is loosely based on a children’s book by William Steig.
