Now streaming on Shudder, is the documentary movie, Doc of Chucky. Produced and directed by Thommy Hutson, and narrated by Autumn Ivy, the film takes an in-depth look at the Chucky horror franchise.
From the development of 1988’s Child’s Play, through to the creation of the sequels and beyond, Doc of Chucky covers pretty much every angle of this celebrated series. Each film is given its chance to shine, with various clips and behind the scenes info to back it all up.

One of the key selling points of Doc of Chucky is the sheer amount of people involved. All the major players from the franchise pop up to talk about the killer doll, offering their thoughts, feelings, and musings along the way.
Contributors range from Chucky creator Don Mancini, producer David Kirschner, and puppeteer Kevin Yagher, through to directors Tom Holland and Ronny Yu, as well as actors Brad Dourif, Chris Sarandon, Beth Grant, and Jennifer Tilly, amongst others.
The film digs deep and brings back countless important people for chats. It’s mostly talking heads stuff, but if you’re a fan of Chucky, you’ll be pleased to see so many of the cast and crew involved in the discussion.

Unlike last year’s docu-film, Living with Chucky, which offered up a highlights package of the series, this documentary goes much deeper. Doc of Chucky runs a whopping five hours in length, with almost 90-minutes devoted to the first film alone.
In terms of its content and presentation it’s also similar to the excellent horror documentaries Never Sleep Again (Nightmare on Elm Street) and Crystal Lake Memories (Friday the 13th), which share the same producers. So, if you’ve watched those docu-films and you’re a fan, then Doc of Chucky should prove very satisfying.
Put simply: Unless you have an intense dislike for the Chucky films, Doc of Chucky offers up an enjoyable and immersive watch. It goes down to the nuts and bolts of each film, with plenty of interesting anecdotes for fans and newbies alike.
