Now streaming on Netflix is the romantic comedy, Find Me Falling. Written and directed by Stelana Kliris, the film stars Harry Connick Jr., Agni Scott, Ali Fumiko Whitney, and Tony Demetriou, and tells the story of a failed rock star who moves to a remote house in Greece, with a very significant problem.

In the movie, John Allman is a failed, ageing rock star who is struggling to regain his footing in the music business. Keen to take a break from it all, he buys a house in Cyprus.

His house is situated on top of a cliff, overlooking the sea. It’s beautiful, picturesque, and completely stunning, yet as John quickly discovers it’s also a suicide hot spot.

With the police reluctant to do anything about the suicides (due to the sheer frequency), John finds himself having to take matters into his own hands. He also finds himself reconnecting with an old flame and becoming a bigger part of the community than he expected.

Beautifully shot, well scripted, and occasionally humorous, Find Me Falling is a likeable and enjoyable romp about a man who wants alone time but fails to get it. John’s plan is to find some peace away from the hustle and bustle of his life, but he soon finds new problems he simply can’t run away from.

One problem is the suicide spot situated outside his front door, which forces him to (reluctantly) connect with strangers. Another is a blast from the past, which stirs up old feelings and reveals a hidden secret.

Over the course of the movie, John finds himself continually taken out of his comfort zone, and interacting with strangers as well as those who have become estranged from him. Whether he likes it or not his circle expands, he’s dragged into it regardless, and the audience has fun watching it all play out.

Harry Connick Jr. takes on the part of John, and he’s fun and affable in that way that Harry Connick Jr. always is. With this role, the actor understands the assignment completely, and plays John with care, as well as a slight twinkle in his eye.

John might be keen to be alone, but this is clearly not the path intended for him, and Connick Jr. understands this inside and out. He nails the role and is a big part of the movie’s appeal.

Joining him on screen is a solid supporting cast (Agni Scott, Tony Demetriou, etc) who play the various people who come in and out of John’s life. One of these people is Melina, who shares a significant connection to John, and is played by the delightful Ali Fumiko Whitney.

In many ways, Melina is the heart of the movie and the ultimate catalyst for John finding peace. It’s not the peace he intended, but it is the peace he needs.

All-in-all, Find Me Falling is reliable, easy-to-watch stuff. It doesn’t reinvent the wheel, nor will it bowl anyone over, but it does offer 90-minutes of gentle entertainment.

Connick Jr. is great, the story is perfectly serviceable, and the stunning Greek backdrop is exactly what is needed during the bumpy summer season. If you want something light and inoffensive to chill to one summer evening, this could be the film for you.

Rating: 3 out of 5.
