In The Fall Guy, Colt Seavers is a movie stunt man who primarily works as a stunt double for Hollywood action star, Tom Ryder. It’s dangerous work, but something which Colt is great at, and he makes a good living doing the jobs that most would baulk at.
But during one of his stunts, something goes wrong. There’s an accident on set and Colt breaks his back.
Over the next 18 months, as Colt goes into recovery, he turns away from everything that means something to him, including his job and his girlfriend Jody Moreno. He then takes a new role as a valet for a Mexican restaurant, where he keeps a low profile parking cars for diners.
But all this changes when Colt receives a phone call from movie producer, Gail Meyer. Gail informs Colt that Jodie is directing her first movie, and would like him to join the production.
However, Gail isn’t being completely truthful with Colt and she has an ulterior motive for getting him back on set. Gail wants to hire Colt to discreetly track down actor Tom Ryder, who has recently gone missing.
Colt agrees to take on the job, but finds himself getting in over his head. There’s more to Tom’s disappearance than it seems, and plenty of danger too.

Directed by David Leitch, and loosely based on the 1981 television show of the same name, The Fall Guy is an explosive action comedy which opens in UK cinemas on Thursday May 2nd and in the US on Friday May 3rd. The movie stars Ryan Gosling, Emily Blunt, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Winston Duke, and Hannah Waddingham, and is a thoroughly enjoyable romp, stocked up on spectacle and loaded with laughs.
If you’re looking for a popcorn blockbuster to ease your way into the summer, then The Fall Guy is for you. The movie is a daft, likeable flick, which is big on action and romance, and includes fun performances from the central cast, especially Gosling and Blunt.

Remember how great Gosling was in last year’s Barbie? Well, he delivers the goods again in The Fall Guy.
As stuntman-turned-bounty hunter, Colt Seavers, Gosling steals every scene, bringing heart, humour, and plenty of sex appeal to the screen. He plays Colt as a good-natured guy, who doesn’t always make the right choices, but is a stand-up person and very much an all-rounder.
Meanwhile Blunt takes on the role of director and spurned lover, Jody Moreno, and as is always the case with Blunt, she understands the assignment perfectly. Blunt plays Jody as a formidable woman, who is more than a match for Colt, and is superb at delivering the laughs when needed.
The chemistry between the two leads is a big selling point, but then so too is everything else. You’ll come to The Fall Guy for the actors, you’ll get caught up by the laughter, and you’ll stay for the stunts.

What’s great about The Fall Guy is the way in which the film highlights the importance and sheer majesty of stunt work. This movie doesn’t just toss a few fight scenes into the story to tick off the action quota, it goes all out to bring excitement to the screen.
Whether it is a brawl in a club, a sci-fi battle in front of the Sydney Opera House, or an epic (and hilarious) car chase, The Fall Guy revels in its stunts. The picture highlights the beauty and choreography that goes into stunt work, as well as the skill, and showcases it in all its glory.
And all of this is backed up by an excellent soundtrack, which is filled with classic bangers. If you’re not chuckling at the cast, or smiling at the stunts, then you’ll be tapping along with the tunes, which includes the ever-fabulous ‘I Was Made for Lovin’ You‘, which pops up multiple times in the movie.

From start to finish, The Fall Guy is a hoot. Sure, the story isn’t the strongest, and the core mystery surrounding the disappearance of Tom Ryder is predictable, but there’s a lot to like.
Everyone seems to be having an absolute ball hamming it up for the camera, and the whole thing is continuously playful. The Fall Guy has pretty much everything you could want from an action blockbuster, and it gets the summer season off to a great start!
