In Lassie: A New Adventure, Florian Maurer and his pet dog, Lassie are spending the summer holidays in South Tyrol with their Aunt Cosima and her family. The plan is to see out the entire season on Cosima’s farm, with fun and good times forming the backdrop to their stay.
But shortly after Flo and Lassie arrive, they become aware of something unsettling taking place in town. A number of local dogs are going missing, with their owners left upset and perplexed.
Things then go from bad to worse when a pair of dognappers arrive at the farm and snatch the family pooch, Pippa. The dog is taken while Flo and Lassie are home, leaving Flo feeling very guilty about the situation.
Keen to bring Pippa back to the farm, Flo and Lassie team up with Aunt Cosima’s adopted children to track down the missing mutt. But can the gang locate the pilfered pet and put the dognappers behind bars?

Directed by Hanno Olderdissen, Lassie: A New Adventure is a German adventure movie featuring world famous dog, Lassie. The movie – which is dubbed into English – is a follow-up to 2020’s Lassie Come Home and stars Nico Marischka, Katharina Schüttler, Justus von Dohnányi, Annette Frier, Anna Lucia Gualano, and Pelle Staacken.
Aimed squarely at the family-friendly market, with a considerable eye on younger audiences in particular, Lassie: A New Adventure is a light and inoffensive kids’ film which does exactly what you expect it to do. There’s a bunch of children, a mystery, some cute canines, and of course, the star of the film, Lassie.
During the course of the movie, dogs are stolen, Flo and Co. do their best to retrieve the animals, and Lassie plays a significant part in the operation. The clever canine puts her skills into action and there are a number of scenes of Lassie foiling foes and highlighting her heroic status.

Is Lassie: A New Adventure a ground-breaking picture, filled with imaginative ideas and huge set pieces? No, it’s a straight forward children’s story with (at best) some mild peril and an obvious outcome that will come as no surprise to anyone over the age of ten.
There’s really no huge change to the formula here, it is essentially Lassie 101. If you’re seen one Lassie movie before, you know pretty much what you’re getting.
However, Lassie: A New Adventure is a sunshine-filled movie which offers a bit of escapism for young audiences who like dogs. The film also clocks in at a bum-friendly 90-minutes, meaning it doesn’t drag on beyond its basic premise, and it looks nice too.
Should you wish to check out the film for yourself, Lassie: A New Adventure arrives in UK cinemas on Friday 3rd May.
