A brand-new signature mystery movie is heading to Hallmark Movies & Mysteries for 2024. The film – which makes its debut in February – stars Ali Skoybye, Danny Griffin, James Drew Dean, Cesare Scarpone, Amira Anderson, Gillian Barber, and Nathan Witte, and is called Gilded Newport Mysteries: Murder at the Breakers.

Describing the premise of the new movie, Hallmark said: “It’s July 1895 and the New York elite have decamped to Newport, Rhode Island for a summer of balls, garden parties, and yacht races. Covering these events for the women’s pages of the Newport Observer is Emma Vanderbilt-Cross (Skovbye), a fearless 21-year-old writer with family ties to the wealthy Vanderbilt family.

“But writing articles about food and fashion is the last thing on Emma’s mind when her half-brother Brady Cross (Dean) is arrested for the murder of Goddard (Scarpone), the long-time Vanderbilt business advisor. She decides to take matters into her own hands and sets out to prove her half-brother’s innocence, discovering Goddard had more than his fair share of enemies.

“As Emma investigates with the help of police detective and crush Jesse Whyte (Griffin), housekeeper Nanny O’Neal (Barber) and coroner’s assistant Harriet Rice (Anderson), she’s plunged into a word of intrigue and danger – while attracting the attention of the town’s mysterious new stranger (Witte). As Emma grows closer to the truth, Goddard’s true murderer goes on the offensive, willing to stop at nothing to keep their identity a secret.”

Gilded Newport Mysteries: Murder at the Breakers is a joint production between Newport Road Productions Ltd. and Front Street Pictures Inc. Charles Cooper is on board as producer, with John Cassini, Allen Lewis, Sunta Izzicupo, James Walsh, and Michael Shepard as executive producers.

The movie is directed by Terry Ingram, working from a script by Keri Ferencz. Gilded Newport Mysteries: Murder at the Breakers is based off a book series written by Alyssa Maxwell.
