In 2002, British detective drama, Foyle’s War made its debut. The series – created by Anthony Horowitz – was set around the events of the Second World War and followed the story of Detective Chief Superintendent Christopher Foyle – a widower who is called upon to catch criminals during war time Britain.
Michael Kitchen took on the role of Foyle for the period drama, while the supporting cast included Honeysuckle Weeks, and Anthony Howell. The series featured a collection of largely self-contained episodes, effectively acting as TV movies, with each running between 90 to 100 minutes in length.
Due to the popularity of Foyle’s War, the series ran for eight seasons. It aired on ITV in the UK, but due to its success it was sold around the world, popping up in countries such as Australia, Canada, Sweden, Finland and the US, amongst others.
