In 2015, the US crime drama series, Narcos hit television screens. Filmed and set in Colombia, Narcos told the story of Colombian drug baron, Pablo Escobar, and his rise to become a billionaire through the production and distribution of cocaine.

Upon making its debut on Netflix, Narcos proved successful with streamers. This quickly convinced Netflix to commission a second series to appear the following year.

More episodes soon followed, as did a Narcos spin-off show. But if you’re completely new to Narcos, you may be wondering how many episodes there are, what the spin-off show is, and how you go about watching it all.

Well, wonder no further. Below you will find all the details and more.

Understanding Narcos

As noted above, Narcos first hit screens in 2015. The show debuted on Netflix as a ten-episode season, with all ten episodes arriving on August 28th.

The show – which straddled a time period stretching from the 1970s to the 1990s – was a hit with viewers and this prompted Netflix to push ahead with a second season. Season two arrived a year later, with a further ten episodes popping up on the streaming service on September 2nd 2016.

Once again this season proved popular and Netflix ordered a third season. This third offering arrived on Netflix on September 1st 2017, delivering ten more episodes.

From this point onward, Netflix had plans to continue the show for a fourth season, but soon those plans changed. Rather than shoot a fourth season of Narcos, it was decided the original run would come to an end to pave the way for something new.

In place of a fourth season, the Narcos brand would be refreshed, with the debut of a companion series instead. Set during the 1980s, this new series would be called Narcos: Mexico and would bring back some of the characters from Narcos, while at the same time introduce a new cast of characters to lead a new story.

The first season of Narcos: Mexico appeared on Netflix on November 16th 2018. As with its predecessor, this would be a ten-episode run, with all of the episodes appearing on the same day.

A second season followed on February 13th 2020, with a third and final season debuting on November 5th 2021. Both seasons comprised ten episodes, taking the tally up to thirty.
