In 2018, US crime drama series, FBI arrived on television screens. The series – which made its debut on CBS – followed the lives of multiple characters working in the New York City field office criminal division of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

Due to the popularity of the series, FBI was soon accompanied by a couple of spin-off shows. The shows followed a new set of characters, and expanded the FBI universe.

But if you’re new to FBI, you may not be familiar with the shows or you might not know how to watch them in order. Well, don’t worry, because you’ll find all the details below.

Understanding the FBI shows

As noted above, FBI made its debut in 2018 with the first episode hitting TV screens on September 25th. From the very beginning, FBI proved popular with viewers and the first season ran for 22 episodes, ending in May 2019.

While the first season of FBI was on air, it was clear to CBS, as well as the FBI showrunners, they had a hit on their hands, so work began on developing a spin-off series. This series started out with a backdoor pilot episode, called ‘Conflict of Interest‘, which aired as the 19th episode of FBI season one.

Because this pilot was successful, the characters and concepts developed in this episode were used to kick-start a new show. This new show was called FBI: Most Wanted, which was taken to series in January 2020, while FBI was mid-way through its second season.

From November 2020, FBI began its third season, while FBI: Most Wanted entered its second season. Both shows continued to be popular with viewers, so when they returned for new seasons in 2021, CBS added yet another show into the mix, called FBI: International.

The first season of FBI: International began in September 2021, alongside the fourth season of FBI and the third season of FBI: Most Wanted. This trio of shows then continued in 2022, with FBI: International entering its second season, alongside FBI season five and FBI: Most Wanted season four.
