During The X-Files‘ 218 episode run, the series served up a cracking collection of stories which delighted, frightened, and entertained audiences. The X-Files was a hugely successful show with a large fanbase, and a significant part of this was due to the strength of its writing, which led to many great episodes.
But if you’re an X-Files fan, then you know the vast majority of episodes were split into two distinct categories: ‘mythology’ episodes and ‘monster of the week‘ episodes. The first category focused on a long-running story arc, related to a government/alien conspiracy, while the latter tended to be stand-alone stories, centred around a monster or a supernatural entity.
There were a few exceptions to this rule, with some episodes blurring the lines a touch, such as the season one episode ‘Conduit‘ which focused on aliens but wasn’t part of the overall mythology. However, for the most part, X-Files fans were usually treated to either a ‘mythology’ episode or a ‘monster of the week’ episode, and the distinction was pretty clear.
Over the years, some fans like to revisit The X-Files with a full re-watch of the series. But what if you just want to watch the ‘mythology’ episodes?
Well, if you do just want to watch the ‘mythology’ episodes, then you’ll need a handy list to follow which focuses squarely on these episodes, and these episodes ONLY. And this list also needs to include one of the X-Files movies, which is also part of the ‘mythology’ story arc.
Oh, and you can find this list below!
