In just a few short days, Warner Bros. Pictures’ latest comic book movie, Blue Beetle will be arriving in cinemas. The film – based on the DC Comics character of the same – stars Xolo Maridueña, Susan Sarandon, George Lopez, and Raoul Trujillo, and hits UK and US cinemas on August 18th.
Directed by Angel Manuel Soto, Blue Beetle follows the story of Jaime Reyes – a college graduate who becomes the symbiotic host to an ancient alien biotechnological relic. This relic – known as the Scarab – grants Jaime a powerful exoskeleton, transforming him into the titular Blue Beetle in the process.
Blue Beetle is the latest in a long line of DC movies, following the likes of Man of Steel, The Suicide Squad, and The Flash. The movie marks the first appearance of the hero in a live-action film, and will act as an origin tale.
But when Blue Beetle makes its theatrical debut will it be suitable for all? What is the age rating of Blue Beetle?

In the US, Blue Beetle is a ‘PG-13’ rated movie. The Motion Picture Association (MPA) has rated Blue Beetle a ‘PG-13’ for sequences of action, violence, and language.
As a ‘PG-13’ anyone can watch Blue Beetle in cinemas, but parents are warned some material may be deemed unsuitable for those under the age of 13-years-old. The MPA urges parents to be cautious, if their child is a pre-teen.

In the UK, Blue Beetle is a ‘12-A’ certificate film. The British Board of Film Classification has rated Blue Beetle a ‘12A’ as it believes the film is most suitable for those 12 and over.
In the UK, anyone under the age of 12 can watch a ‘12A’ in cinemas, but a parent or adult guardian will need to accompany them. This is the rule for all ‘12A’ movies.
As a point of reference, most Marvel Studios movies carry a ‘12A’ certificate in the UK, and more recently, Barbie was given a ‘12A’ certificate over here too. This should help you get an understanding of what type of movie to expect with Blue Beetle.
So, in answer to the question posed earlier in this post, about whether Blue Beetle is suitable for all ages, well according to the censors, while Blue Beetle can be watched by all, it is more suitable for teenagers and above. If you’re a parent of a pre-teen, you may want to take a look at the movie first if you’re in any doubt.
