This summer, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are returning to the big screen for a brand-new feature length adventure. The movie – which arrives in the UK in late July and in the US in early August – is an animated picture called Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem.
As the title suggests, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem features a whole collection of mutated characters, who will appear alongside Leonardo, Donatello, Michelangelo, and Raphael. These characters include Genghis Frog, Wingnut, Ray Fillet, and the skate-boarding Mondo Gecko.
If you have caught a trailer for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, or you have seen a glimpse of the poster, you will know the movie is a colourful-looking film. You may also be aware that Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem is an all-star affair too, with a voice cast that includes Jackie Chan, John Cena, Paul Rudd, Maya Rudolph, Giancarlo Esposito, and Ice Cube, amongst others.
But what of the movie’s age rating? What is the age rating for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem?

In the US, the MPA has given Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem a ‘PG’ rating. This rating means parental guidance is suggested by the MPA, as some material may not be suitable for children.
In the UK, the BBFC has also awarded Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem a ‘PG’ rating. This rating has been given for “mild violence, language, threat (and) rude humour”.
‘PG’ rated movies are generally regarded as films that all audiences can view without too many problems. Some scenes may be unsuitable for some younger children, but there is no specific restriction on viewing these films at the cinema, and the contents of the film should not prove too unsettling.

As a general note, most of the previous Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies have carried a ‘PG’ certificate, which means Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem is keeping in line with what has come before. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is viewed as a family-friendly brand, which has long been very popular with young fans, and this latest adventure ensures young audiences can continue to enjoy their adventures on the big screen.
To date, the only Ninja Turtles movies not to carry a ‘PG’ rating have included 2014’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, 2016’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, and the animated film, Batman vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. All three of these films were aimed at a slightly older, teen audience, and carried a ‘PG-13′ rating in the US and a ’12’ certificate in the UK.
