You don’t?! Oh, jeez.

The Conjuring in production order

If you’re not fussed about watching the films in the ‘in-universe’ timeline order, and you simply want to watch The Conjuring movies in the order they were released, then you you should watch the movies in production order. This order jumps back and forth across the timeline, but the story still makes perfect sense, and you’ll get to watch the movies in the exact order they appeared in cinemas.

The Conjuring movies in production order:

  • The Conjuring (2013)
  • Annabelle (2014)
  • The Conjuring 2 (2016)
  • Annabelle: Creation (2017)
  • The Nun (2018)
  • The Curse of La Llorona (2019)
  • Annabelle Comes Home (2019)
  • The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (2021)
  • The Nun 2 (2023)

And now onto an alternative viewing order…

As with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the films in The Conjuring Universe are released in a non-linear order, with some films acting as sequels, and others acting as prequels. As such, if you want to watch the films chronologically (i.e. in timeline order) then you need to watch them in a different order to how they were originally released in cinemas.

For example, in terms of the timeline, the events of The Nun take place first, with the events of Annabelle: Creation and The Nun 2 following next. Then the timeline continues with Annabelle, The Conjuring, and so on…

If you with to watch The Conjuring movies in timeline order, then follow this list:

  • The Nun (2018)
  • Annabelle: Creation (2017)
  • The Nun 2 (2023)
  • Annabelle (2014)
  • The Conjuring (2013)
  • Annabelle Comes Home (2019)
  • The Curse of La Llorona (2019)
  • The Conjuring 2 (2016)
  • The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (2021)

The shorts

In addition to the movies listed above, The Conjuring Universe also includes a small collection of (non-essential) shorts. The shorts are the result of a competition that Warner Bros. Pictures launched in 2017, to promote Annabelle: Creation.

The idea behind these shorts was that they ‘could exist’ in The Conjuring Universe. Winners were selected from the United States, the UK, Mexico, Sweden and Colombia.

The shorts are as follows:

  • The Nurse (2017)
  • The Confession (2017)
  • What’s Wrong with Mom? (2017)
  • Blund’s Lullaby (2017)
  • Innocent Souls (2017)

Please note, these shorts are not essential viewing, and are difficult to track down. Unless you are desperate to view them, you should just stick to the movies.
