Over the weekend, Hallmark Movies & Mysteries in the US aired a brand-new, sci-fi romantic drama. The film – which starred Niall Matter and Torrey DeVitto – was called Rip in Time and told the story of an 18th Century man, who finds himself out of his comfort zone when he travels to 2022.
Rip in Time was broadcast on Sunday 22nd May, and as with all new Hallmark movies it was accompanied by a ‘tweet-a-long’ on Twitter. This ‘Tweet-a-long’ allowed Hallmark to interact with viewers while the movie played out, and it gave fans the opportunity to express their feelings about the film.
And those feelings appear to be very positive. Rip in Time was praised by fans, with comments including: “Great movie! Watching now”, and “This really was a wonderful feel good movie.”
More praise followed, including: “Thank you for presenting this awesome movie! Really loved it!!!”, as well as “Fantastic and powerful movie.” Another said: “Really liked #RipinTime! It was just about the most realistic movie, for a sci fi romance about quantum leaping, that I’ve seen on Hallmark!”
As well as praise for Rip in Time, fans also appreciated the performance of the cast – especially from Niall Matter.
One Twitter user said: “I am laughing out loud at some of Niall’s quirky comments and confused looks. The story could be hokey but he’s believable and endearing as a time traveller. The whole cast is great. Fun writing too!”
Another said: “So, I am LOVING #RipinTime!! @niallmatter & @TorreyDeVitto are fabulous! Seriously, though, Niall is portraying this character perfectly!” While one user said: “Really enjoyed #RipinTime and props to @niallmatter & TorreyDeVitto along with the rest of the super-talented cast.”
And of course, with this film proving popular, a number of fans called for more, in the form of a Rip in Time sequel. One fan said: “I need a sequel!!”, while another commented: “The entire cast was wonderful and everyone had great chemistry together. Such a lovely movie. I’d love to see this turned into a series.”
So far, there’s been no word from Hallmark on whether or not Rip in Time will get a sequel, but clearly from the social media response alone, there is an appetite for more. Actors Torrey DeVitto and Niall Matter also appear to have enjoyed the experience of making the movie, something which became apparent in a recent Q&A session broadcast on Twitter.
Taking to the social media platform to answer questions about Rip in Time, a couple of days ahead of the movie’s debut, the actors revealed some behind the scenes info, including their favourite moments from the film. For Matter, he really enjoyed filming the sequence set in New York, and called it “a lot of fun.”
Meanwhile, for DeVitto, she said: “I’m like a super cheeseball, and I love everything romance, so we have a dance sequence (and) I loved that!” She added: “I loved it and I can’t wait for people to see it.”
During the same Q&A session, Matter also revealed what he believes are his character’s favourite qualities, commenting: “I think Rip is trustworthy.” He added: “I love his sense of wonder, erm, his honesty, and his loyalty.”
So, Matter is a fan of Rip, both Matter and DeVitto seemed to enjoy filming Rip in Time, and viewers seemed to really take to this new movie. Looks like another hit for Hallmark.
