In 1980, Magnum, P.I. blasted its way onto television screens. The crime drama – created by Donald P. Bellisario and Glen A. Larson – starred Tom Selleck, Roger E. Mosley, Larry Manetti, and John Hillerman, and followed the adventures of private investigator, Thomas Magnum, who lives on the island of Oahu in Hawaii.

During its initial run, Magnum, P.I. was a hugely successful show, with actor Tom Selleck proving to be a popular lead amongst audiences. During the course of its broadcast, the series achieved huge ratings, peaking at around 22.6 million US viewers at its height.  

But how many episodes of Magnum, P.I. were produced? And how many seasons are there?

Magnum, P.I. ran for eight seasons, airing between 1980 and 1988. In total, 162 episodes of Magnum, P.I. were broadcast.

The first two episodes of the show were ‘Don’t Eat the Snow in Hawaii – Part 1 & 2’, which aired back-to-back on December 11th 1980. The final two episodes, ‘Resolutions – Part 1 & 2’ aired on May 1st 1988 and concluded the series.

In addition to 162 episodes, Magnum, P.I. crossed over with two other television shows to create double-length stories.

The first crossover took place in 1982 with the mystery series, Simon & Simon. The second crossover was in 1986 when Magnum, P.I. crossed over with Murder, She Wrote.

In both instances where the crossovers took place, the story began in an episode of Magnum, P.I., before concluding in one of the aforementioned shows.
