Will there be a new Martha’s Vineyard Mystery movie?

Since arriving on screens in 2020, the Martha’s Vineyard Mystery movies have proved very popular with fans. The film series – which stars Jesse Metcalfe and Sarah Lind – have built up a strong and loyal following on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries, and this has led to the production of four films: A Beautiful Place to Die, Riddled with Deceit, Ships in the Night, and Poisoned in Paradise.

The most recent entry in the series, Poisoned in Paradise, aired on May 16^th 2021. The film provided super sleuthers with the opportunity to dive into another well-written mystery, but it also left fans wanting more.

But will there be any more? Will there be another Martha’s Vineyard Mystery movie?

Well, there is possibly some good news about a fifth film. Although, you may wish to take this news with a pinch of salt.

Another Martha’s Vineyard Mystery movie is (potentially) on the horizon. A fifth entry in the series has previously been teased and if it arrives, it is tentatively titled: American Dreamer: A Martha’s Vineyard Mystery.

The announcement of a fifth movie came back in March 2021, when news broke that Jesse Metcalfe was to bow out of the popular TV show, Chesapeake Shores. It was announced the actor would be leaving the role of Trace Riley, early into the show’s fifth season, but he wouldn’t be going too far away from Hallmark and Crown Media.

In a statement (via Deadline), Hallmark said: “Jesse is a valued member of the Crown Media family; we look forward to continuing to work with him on projects, including original movies on Hallmark Channel, as well as his Hallmark Movies & Mysteries’ movie series, Martha’s Vineyard Mysteries, the next instalment of which premieres on May 16 (2023). In addition, we are currently in development on another movie in the series.”

When Hallmark issued the statement about Chesapeake Shores back in 2021, it noted that two new Martha’s Vineyard Mystery movies were on the horizon. As we now know, the first of these movies was Poisoned in Paradise, which has since aired.

As for the second movie, the film was gearing up to go into production – and Jesse Metcalfe couldn’t wait to get going!

In an interaction on Twitter, a fan (who didn’t know a fifth movie was coming) asked the actor if he was making any new Martha’s Vineyard Mystery movies? Metcalfe responded with enthusiasm, and confirmation, by saying: “I’m definitely excited to get back into production on a new #MarthasVineyardMystery!!!”

A potential title for this fifth movie then began to circulate, with American Dreamer: A Martha’s Vineyard Mystery being suggested. This title wasn’t officially confirmed, but it did seem likely this would be the name of movie number five.

No further details about a fifth Martha’s Vineyard Mystery movie were released, but fans remained pleased and hopeful. However, flashforward in time, and so far, the film has not materialised.

Does this mean the movie is no longer happening? It’s unclear, but Hallmark definitely had plans to continue the series beyond movie number four, so a fifth entry could still arrive.

Sometimes movies take longer than expected, while at other times, projects don’t quite get off the ground. The important thing here is the fact Hallmark was keen to keep going, so this means fans should still remain hopeful.

So, at present there is no fifth film in the Martha’s Vineyard Mystery movie series, but this doesn’t mean there won’t be one. It has been teased, the movie’s lead stars are interested, and Hallmark has made it clear it does want more, so it is now a case of waiting to see what happens.
