Today I am devoting a post to all of the live-action, theatrically released Batman movies. I’m going to provide questions and answers to all of the movies, to create a cheat sheet should you be a little rusty on your Bat-facts.
This Q&A session covers all of the live-action Batman movies to date, and highlights actors, characters and situations from the movies. Some of the questions are basic stuff, others are a little more detailed, but all should provide answers to your questions.

Who was the first actor to play Batman?
The first actor to play Batman was Lewis Wilson. The actor portrayed Batman/Bruce Wayne in the 1943 black and white serial, Batman.
The serial was released theatrically and was successful enough to produce a follow-up called Batman and Robin, which made its debut in 1949. In the sequel, Robert Lowery played the role of Batman/Bruce Wayne.
Was Batman 1943 the first Batman movie?
No. Batman (1943) was a 15-chapter serial and not a feature-length movie.

No, Batman: The Movie was a standalone film. However, two animated movies based around the 1960s Batman series were released in 2016 and 2018. Batman: Return of the Caped Crusader (2016) and Batman vs. Two-Face (2017) featured the vocal talents of Adam West and Burt Ward, who played Batman and Robin in the ‘60s series and Batman: The Movie.
What was the Batman movie of the 1980s called?

Have you ever danced with the devil in the pale moonlight? is a phrase that the Joker claims to recite before he kills people. In truth there are times in Batman ’89 when he kills people without saying the phrase.
Who played Vicki Vale in Batman ’89?
The role of Vicki Vale was played by Kim Basinger in Batman ’89, although the part was originally given to Sean Young. Basinger was a last minute recast, after Young was injured in a horse riding accident.
Did Two-Face appear in Batman ’89?
No, Two-Face did not appear in Batman (1989), however his alter-ego, Harvey Dent did. In Batman ’89, the role of Harvey Dent was played by Billy Dee Williams.
Why did Billy Dee Williams not appear in the Batman sequels?
Williams took on the role of Harvey Dent, with the understanding that he would eventually get to play the character of Two-Face in a Batman sequel. Unfortunately, the first sequel did not include Dent/Two-Face, and when the third Batman movie went into production, Williams was recast.
Despite Williams not getting the opportunity to play Two-Face in any of the live-action Batman movies, the actor did provide the voice of Harvey ‘Two-Face’ in The Lego Batman Movie (2017).

Who directed Justice League?
Zack Snyder was the main director on Justice League; however, he was not the only director. Five months before Justice League was scheduled to arrive in cinemas, Snyder stepped down from directing duties, due to the death of his daughter, Autumn Snyder.
With Snyder unavailable to complete the movie, Joss Whedon was brought in to handle the film’s post-production stages. Whedon had been involved with rewriting some of the scenes of the movie and during the post-production phase he oversaw some reshoots.

Why was a visual effect used on Henry Cavill’s face in Justice League?
Due to the need for reshoots in Justice League, Henry Cavill was required back on set to film additional material for his role as Superman. However, the actor was shooting the Paramount Pictures movie, Mission: Impossible – Fallout which proved problematic.
For his role in the Mission: Impossible sequel, Cavill’s character had a distinctive moustache – something which Superman did not have. Cavil was unable to shave the moustache for the Justice League reshoots, so digital effects were used to remove the facial hair during post-production.

Has a Batman Beyond movie ever been produced?
