Final sad news story of the evening following news of HMV’s current troubles and Titan’s cancellation of its DC reprints, comes this sad story for movie lovers – The BBC has cancelled its long-running ‘Film’ programme.

The show – famously fronted by Barry Norman, Jonathan Ross and Claudia Winkleman, amongst others – will not return in 2019. The movie review series has been on the air since 1971, offering moviegoers a rundown of the latest films.

A spokesperson for the BBC, said: “In 2019, we will be creating an enhanced offer for lovers of film both on television and online which will be a more consistent approach across the year.”
