Freddy Krueger, Michael Myers, Jason Voorhees, Chucky, the Leprechaun, the Blair Witch and countless other horror icons have all received movie remakes and reboots in recent years – are there any other horror icons left to reboot?
Why, yes. Yes there are.
And the Candyman is one of them!
According to Deadline, MGM Pictures is working with Monkeypaw Productions’ Jordan Peele and Win Rosenfeld to produce a reboot of 1992’s Candyman. Peele and Rosenfeld are reportedly working on the script, with Nia DaCosta set to direct what is being touted as a “spiritual sequel”.
Shooting starts in the spring for a June 2020 release.
Get Out director, Jordan Peele, said:
“The original was a landmark film for black representation in the horror genre. Alongside Night of the Living Dead, Candyman was a major inspiration for me as filmmaker — and to have a bold new talent like Nia at the helm of this project is truly exciting.
“We are honoured to bring the next chapter in the Candyman canon to life and eager to provide new audiences with an entry point to Clive Barker’s legend.”
