Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is being turned into a television series.
According to Polygon, the standalone Star Wars movie will be developed into a new show that will act as a prequel to the film. The series will air on Disney’s new streaming service, which will be called Disney+ (not Disney Play as previously suggested).
Diego Luna will lead the new show, returning to the Star Wars Universe to reprise the role of Cassian Andor. In a statement, the actor said: “I have so many memories of the great work we did together and the relationships I made throughout the journey. We have a fantastic adventure ahead of us, and this new exciting format will give us the chance to explore this character more deeply.”
This will be the second live-action Star Wars series to arrive on Disney+, following hot on the heels of The Mandalorian. The show – about a bounty hunter – is being overseen by Jon Favreau and is expected to make its debut in 2019.
