Iconic DC bad guy, Lex Luthor is being introduced into the fourth season of Supergirl.
Superman’s arch nemesis will be making an appearance over the coming year, in what is being described as a recurring role. The search is currently on the find the right actor to play him – anyone got any suggestions?
For those not quite up-to-date with Supergirl, Lex has been mentioned a number of times in the show, but to date has never made an appearance. His sister, Lena, and mother, Lillian have played significant parts in the show, but Lex is supposedly languishing in jail.
In a joint statement (via The Hollywood Reporter), Supergirl‘s executive producers Robert L. Rovner and Jessica Queller, said:
“We’re beyond excited to introduce iconic villain Lex Luthor to Supergirl and to weave him into our story this season.”
“We’ve talked about having Lex on the show since its inception, and we’re excited to have him finally arrive.
“We can’t wait for him to shake things up in National City and watch him go toe to toe with not only Supergirl, but his sister, Lena Luthor (Katie McGrath).”
Great news, right? And surely another sign that Warner Bros. Pictures has abandoned plans for any more Superman movies at present.
While the studio was developing its connected series of movies – formerly known as the DC Extended Universe – the major Superman characters were off limits or were only available for a short period of time. Since rumours started circulating that Warner Bros. Pictures were no longer pursuing Superman movies, both Lois Lane and Lex Luthor have been made available for use in Supergirl and actor Tyler Hoechlin has been given another guest spot on the show.
Lex is not expected to appear in the same episodes as Superman or Lois (well, not yet anyway), so don’t expect him to make his debut in the forthcoming Arrowverse crossover, Elseworlds.
Speaking of which, check this out…
Earlier in the week, Tyler Hoechlin posted this shot of himself, along with actors Grant Gustin and Stephen Amell, from the set of the Elseworlds crossover episode. As you can see, Superman is decked out in his black outfit.
Why is he in black?
Well, it possibly has something to do with this…
This teaser poster was uploaded by Arrow actor Stephen Amell earlier in the week. As you can see, Amell and Flash actor, Grant Gustin have switched places for the forthcoming story line, suggesting nothing will be quite as it seems when Elseworlds takes place.
Elseworlds airs for three nights in the US, from December 9th on The CW. In the UK, the story line will play out on Sky One shortly after.
