To celebrate the first year of It’s A Stampede!, every day for 365 days I am presenting a totally informative, yet totally useless fact under the banner heading: ‘On this day in geekdom’.
Yep, that’s 365 facts!
Here’s today’s slice of geekdom…
October 18th – On this day in 1988, US comedy series, Roseanne makes its TV debut. The show ran for ten seasons, between 1988 and 1997, before being revived in 2018 and subsequently cancelled.
More tomorrow…

Roseanne was one of my most favourite TV shows ever. Currently trying to find a way to watch The Connors, which just aired in the US this week….

Yeah, I used to really like Roseanne. Prior to Friends arriving on Channel 4, it felt like a US comedy that could work in the US and the UK. I know that Cheers was popular, but as a kid I just didn’t get it and I’ve still to this day never watched Seinfeld, so Roseanne was the BIG US comedy. I’ve not seen any of the new series or The Connors. Has either series been picked up by anyone in the UK?

I’m amazed a UK channel hasn’t snapped this up – especially with all the publicity it has been getting.

I know, I know… perhaps they’re all afraid of being tarnished by the controversy. But, yes, such a wasted opportunity for Channel 4. I thought the season last year was really good, I’d really missed the show, and it was awesome to catch up with everyone, to see what the characters were all doing now. Plus, I used to live in the part of America where the show is set, so it felt like I could have lived next door to these people!

Yeah, it’s crazy that Channel 4 didn’t pick it up. But then, had Channel 4 bought it the station would have done what it always does – made a big fuss for the first 2-3 eps and then move it around the schedules until you can’t find it any more.
