Good morning, it’s day three of 60 Days of Halloween and for this morning’s movie choice – and yes, I did watch a movie ridiculously early this morning – I opted for Shrooms (2007). Directed by Paddy Breathnach and written by Pearse Elliott, Shrooms is a stalk-and-slash horror where a group of youths, out of their minds on mushrooms, are dispatched one-by-one on a weekend getaway.

Was Shrooms any good?

No – not really and rather annoyingly, this film has been sat in my Netflix list waiting for me to watch it for AGES, so I wanted it to be better than it was.

Shrooms is a low budget horror which relies heavily on stalk-and-slash clichés (stoner teens, hillbillies etc) and as such it doesn’t really offer anything original. The ending presents a bit of a twist, but the hour-and-25-minutes that come before is just an exercise in covering old ground.

I didn’t hate Shrooms – jeez, I’ve watched much, much worse – but I didn’t think much of it either. Overall, I was pretty indifferent about the whole film meaning this is a one-time-only watch and I will not be returning to it again.

While I wouldn’t personally recommend it, should you want to check out Shrooms, the film is currently available to stream on Netflix UK.

60 Days of Halloween continues tomorrow…
