This October, Sony Pictures’ Venom movie hits cinema screens. The film – the first in Sony’s non-Spider-Man Spider-Man spin-off series – will star Tom Hardy, Woody Harrelson and Riz Ahmed.

We already know that Hardy is playing the symbiote anti-hero, Venom and it’s heavily rumoured that Woody Harrelson is playing Carnage (although that’s still not confirmed), but now another symbiote has been added into the mix and Riz Ahmed is playing him.

That symbiote is Riot (pictured centre).

During Sony’s Venom panel at San Diego Comic-Con, director Ruben Fleischer previewed some new footage from the movie. According to Comic Book.com, this footage included a scene of Ahmed as his character, Dr. Carlton Drake, the head of the Life Foundation, taking the form of the symbiote, Riot.

As fans will know, Riot is one of a number of symbiotes that exist in the Marvel Universe. The character made his debut in the pages of Venom: Lethal Protector #4 back in 1993.

Describing his character, Ahmed called Drake “a genius billionaire inventor.” He said: “Life Foundation…is trying to answer the question of what does the future for humanity look like…He thinks, probably, we’ve got a future in outer space and he comes across the symbiote.”

The footage from the panel has not been released outside, but Hybrid Network has posted a footage description video which is worth a watch. The video describes a few more details about what was shown and gives a bit of an insight into what to expect when the movie arrives later this year.
