A movie dubbed ‘China’s most expensive movie ever’ has flopped at the Chinese box office.

Fantasy film, Asura opened this weekend in China after being heavily promoted as a movie with a $100 million budget. Unfortunately neither the promotion or the budget paid off and it earned just $7.1 million.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the movie has now been pulled from cinema screens. Ouch!

A statement about the movie’s disappearance from screens suggests it is off to be tweaked and then re-released at a later date. Poor reviews – including alleged fake reviews – are being blamed for the movie’s box office failure.
