With Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom now in cinemas, it won’t be long before eyes are turned towards the third entry in the Jurassic World series – Jurassic World III. But when will it be here, what will it be about and who the heck is involved?!?
The answers to all these questions are below in my aptly titled guide: Everything you need to know about Jurassic World III.
When will Jurassic World III be released?
The as-yet-untitled third Jurassic World movie is currently scheduled for release on June 11th 2021. This is the US release date, but as with Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom international audiences should expect to see the movie hit their local cinemas a few days before/after this date.
Who is directing Jurassic World III?
Colin Trevorrow is taking on directing duties for Jurassic World III. Trevorrow previously directed and co-wrote the screenplay for Jurassic World (2015) and was a co-writer on Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Trevorrow said: “(Executive producer) Steven Spielberg asked me (to direct), and when he asks you, what can I tell you, man? In all honesty, over my past few years, I’ve grown to love and cherish the value of the gift that I’ve been given with this franchise.”
Trevorrow is currently working on the screenplay for Jurassic World III with American director/screenwriter, Emily Carmichael.
Who will star in Jurassic World III?
At present the only actors confirmed for Jurassic World III are Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard, reprising the roles of Owen Grady and Claire Dearing respectively. No other actors have been announced to appear in the movie, however it is likely B. D. Wong will also pop up as Dr. Henry Wu.
B.D. Wong has played the role of Dr. Wu since Jurassic Park (1993) and that role has increased considerably over the course of the last two Jurassic movies. The character will almost certainly put in one final appearance in Jurassic World III.
Will Jeff Goldblum appear in Jurassic World III?
There’s currently no confirmation that Goldblum will appear in Jurassic World III BUT the Jurassic series does have a habit of bringing back legacy characters, so there’s a strong possibility that Goldblum or at least another actor from the series will put in an appearance.
Will Jurassic World III pick up directly after the events of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom?
As with all of the other Jurassic movies, Jurassic World III will almost certainly pick up in real time so should be set three years after the events of Fallen Kingdom. Therefore, expect Jurassic World III to take place in a time where humans have had to deal with the impact of dinosaurs living in the US.
Will Jurassic World III have a similar horror tone to Fallen Kingdom?
No – according to Colin Trevorrow JWIII will be closer in tone to Jurassic Park than Fallen Kingdom or any of the other movies in the series. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Trevorrow said:
“If I could contextualize each film, I would say Jurassic World was an action adventure, Fallen Kingdom is kind of a horror suspense film, and Jurassic World 3 will be a science thriller in the same way that Jurassic Park was.”
Will an Indoraptor or an Indominus Rex appear in Jurassic World III?
No, the days of hybrid dinos such as the Indoraptor or the Indominus Rex are pretty much over. In an interview with Total Film magazine (via Bloody Disgusting), Colin Trevorrow, explained that JWIII would be about taking the series “back to basics”. He said: “I’m looking forward to, in the third film, getting a little back into the Paleontological, wild animal, true dinosaur nature of all of it.”
Will Jurassic World III be the last Jurassic Park/Jurassic World film?
At the moment, Jurassic World III is being touted as the final chapter in the Jurassic World series, effectively concluding the story that has centred around Owen Grady/Claire Dearing. Does this mean it’s the final Jurassic movie? Well, that remains to be seen.
The Jurassic movies are very popular, so while Jurassic World III is set to be the final entry (for now) it’s likely the series will take on a new form in the future. This could be a new trilogy, it could be off-shoots or even a reboot; but one thing is for sure, this series is far from extinct.
