Have you caught your breath yet from all those cancellations/TV hiccups I’ve posted about over the last few days (Lethal Weapon, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Lucifer etc)?

Well, maybe this latest bit of news will help take the pain away. Or maybe not.

Paramount Pictures is developing a new G.I. Joe movie based around the character of Snake Eyes. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Beauty and the Beast writer, Evan Spiliotopoulos is being tapped to write the script, with Brian Goldner on board as a producer.

At present, it’s not clear whether this movie will be connected to the two previous live-action G.I. Joe films – The Rise of Cobra (2009) and Retaliation (2013) – or whether it’s the beginning of a whole new series. It’s highly likely this will be an entirely new beast, allowing Paramount to start a new run of G.I. Joe flicks… but we’ll have to wait and see how this all plays out.

Of course there is one quite important thing to remember about Snake Eyes – he is a completely silent character. I’m not entirely sure the average cinema goer will be up for a two-hour silent ninja movie, so expect Spiliotopoulos to come up with some ingenious way to get around this pesky problem.

More details when they emerge.
