Rampage, the Dwayne Johnson-starring monster movie, is currently playing in cinemas. Based on the computer game of the same name, the movie is big, dumb, but a heck of a lot of fun – if you like monster movies that is.

If you enjoy Rampage and you’re in the mood for more monster movies, then below you will find my pick of the three best films to watch next. Each of these films shares some similarities with Rampage and of course each is great to watch.

Kong: Skull Island (2017)

Let’s start with the most obvious choice on this list – Kong: Skull Island. This movie is effectively the spiritual cousin to Rampage. It has a giant ape, a bunch of monsters and a lot of smashing and bashing about.

Of course, Kong: Skull Island has a little more going for it than just “smashing and bashing about” as it’s a fun monster movie which benefits from good direction and a cool ’70s/Apocalypse Now-vibe.

If you want to watch something that feels like an extension of Rampage, then Kong: Skull Island is the one for you. And if you want to make it a double-bill then search out the original King Kong (1933) which remains one of the best monster movies of all-time.

20 Million Miles to Earth (1957)

Now for another movie which shares similar elements with Rampage – 20 Million Miles to Earth. This 1957 B-movie tells the story of a creature (Ymir) that comes from space, grows to an incredible size and terrorises a city.

Directed by Nathan H. Juran, 20 Million Miles to Earth features stop-motion animation from legendary visual effects wizard, Ray Harryhausen and is one of the best creature features from the ’50s. Originally produced in black & white, the movie was colourised in 2007 for the film’s 50th anniversary.

Jurassic World (2015)

And finally, another monster movie and one with genetic meddling and one, big-ass dinosaur in the shape of the Indominus Rex. Yep, it’s Jurassic World.

While Jurassic Park is arguably the best entry in the ‘Jurassic‘ series, it’s Jurassic World that is more in-line with Rampage. So, if you’re wanting big, bold creature chompin’ action, then Jurassic World is the one for you.
