Welcome to The A-Z of Horror – an alphabetical window into the horror genre. Over the course of the past 25 days, I’ve been taking a look at horror in all its facets and forms. Today is the final day.
Today: Z is for Zombies
Zombies, zombies, zombies – it seems as if they’re everywhere. Sometimes it seems as if they are a little ‘too’ everywhere.
The truth is, like vampires and witches, zombies are very popular when it comes to horror and that’s because they’re simple to replicate on screen and the zombie apocalypse can easily become a metaphor for something we’re all familiar with (death, disease, viruses etc). As a result to the ease with which zombie stories can be produced, we’re often inundated with them!
Today I wanted to close out The A-Z of Horror by drawing your attention to one of the best zombie horror movies of the past couple of years – the South Korean horror, Train to Busan (2016). This is a zombie movie you need to see, even if you’re a little tired of the subgenre.
Not familiar with Train to Busan? Here’s a little description:
“TRAIN TO BUSAN is a harrowing zombie horror-thriller that follows a group of terrified passengers fighting their way through a countrywide viral outbreak while trapped on a suspicion-filled, blood-drenched bullet train ride to Busan, a southern resort city that has managed to hold off the zombie hordes… or so everyone hopes.” (Source: Rotten Tomatoes)
If you love fast-paced horror movies, with suspense and terror, then Train to Busan is most definitely the zombie movie for you. Rotten Tomatoes currently gives Train to Busan a ‘Fresh’ rating of 95% and IMDB offers up a 7.5 out of 10 rating.
Here’s a trailer:
Train to Busan is currently available to buy on Blu-ray and DVD and really is worth a watch. It is my final recommendation for The A-Z of horror.
I do hope you’ve enjoyed The A-Z of Horror and it’s inspired you to look at different horror movies and TV shows that you perhaps had never considered. Horror doesn’t have to be just one thing – the beauty of the horror genre is the way in which it develops and expands to incorporate all different forms.
The A-Z of Horror has merely touched upon some of the great horror stories out there – now it’s up to you to discover the rest. But remember, if you discover a hidden gem, let me know – I’m always on the look-out for a good scare.
Until next time,
Fangs for reading.
